Concealment

This week i thought i would share you some experiments i have done with the title 'Concealment'. I was using Photoshop and was experimenting with a range of different brushes that would cover up the eyes and the mouth of the model.

I used black and white rather than colour because it highlights the shadows and light more and i also felt with the quite dark and capturing tones of the image, the monochrome would work a lot better. I used a white brush colour because this also didn't make it look too odd and it stood out really well against the background but still fitted in well.

I then started to look at different 'blending' options on Photoshop and this merges two images together but layers them completely without it looking fake. Some look like projections and i think this works really well when merging the two images together and it saves me less time doing it this way than actually projecting images onto the models face.

I messed around with making the face look pixalated too and i think this is an interesting way on showing concealment too. I wanted to really experiment with my model and portrait images and do something different. With them already looking dark and mysterious i felt concealment was a good title for these images.

I will be doing some more as well and thinking of different ways of expressing concealment to help link to this project - if you have any ideas let me know and i will see if i can do them for the project.

Thank you for looking at my images and reading… I will let the images speak for themselves.

Shoot 5 - Imperfections Through The Camera

For my fifth part of my film documentary, i focused on a completely different subject matter and focused on buildings. With the camera i used, it's not as old as the other ones so i knew i was going to be getting clearer results but i was still really intrigued as to what results i was going to get. These images were all taken around Nottingham and the buildings and surroundings have an old feel to them from looking at the bricks and style of the buildings and the historic side to the buildings. These were the ones i was targeting as i felt with an old camera, it would make the images look as if they were taken ages ago and this is what i wanted to achieve

I did the series of images and they were taken in colour, i then changed them into monochrome in Photoshop as i wanted to see if that would add to the old and vintage feeling to the images and i think this worked successfully. I have put a copy of each on so you can see which one you prefer and which ones work better in monochrome. I know that the date is wrong on the camera (this is how good i was with working the camera) as i didn't realise it had a date on the camera and this is the one it came up with. I feel that this adds to that old effect because it looks as if they were taken that long ago and it doesn't look like it was an error.

For the set of images, i was looking at the angles and shapes of the buildings and that's why i was mainly focusing at the top of buildings and experimenting with that. I was also experimenting with shadows and lighting with it being so sunny i wanted to test that out. There are imperfections within the camera because on some images there are some slight marks on the images and on some they have a soft out of focus touch to them with it being an old camera.

Make sure you have a look at the whole documentary that i am doing on my film photography, if you haven't already:

Thank you for reading and i hope you enjoy these images.

Shoot 4 - Imperfections Through The Camera

Hello guys, I have now moved onto my fourth out of sixth shoot on my film documentary on imperfections through the camera. In my last post, I put my film images on from the Halina Vision XM camera and I got really close up to the subjects and made sure they were going to be out of focus and have a pale frosting over the images. I wanted to achieve a different effect this time but using the same camera and see how it would look in my images.

In the images I have taken, I know some of the images have my finger over the lens and I actually couldn't see my finger because of the way the cameras mechanism was designed with it being an older camera. But this works well for the images I was taking because it's all about imperfections. This is the whole point of using old film cameras, to make sure I can see the imperfections and show it in my images. The finger in front of the camera doesn't make too much of a distraction and it still works really well.

I took these images of more landscape shots and tried not to go too close to subjects to make them out of focus, some of them I did, but the majority of the images are still in focus and are more landscape shots. I took the images when the sun was setting and was strong with light and this shows in the images with the orbs and the light flares and it adds a delicate and beautiful effect to the images. I felt this shows in the image of the blossom and the reflection in the water and these are two strong images with a peaceful side to them.

The slight grain on the images and the slight vintage colouring to the images show that they are linked to film and it also makes the images have a slight older feeling to them and this is what makes the images so interesting.

Thank you for reading my post and I hope you enjoy looking at these sets of images - if you want to see any of my other posts linked to this project, click the links below:
